Decorating with Kids' Art

Do you have any naked walls that are crying out for some interesting, colorful artwork? Is your art budget too small to buy an original from a hip, up and coming artist?

Do you even HAVE an art budget? I don't.

But I do know some young, up and coming artists whose masterpieces are the perfect accents for my walls... my kids.

This wall in our foyer displays two of my children's third grade interpretations of a Van Gogh classic. (no, I don't know the name of the classic, you should be impressed that I could spell Van Gogh). The small white sticker in the lower right hand corner of the top painting is from the school art show--my son won a first place ribbon! (Sorry, HAD to slip that in...)

This pencil drawing of a tennis shoe was done by my oldest daughter. It is hanging in our bonus room/rec room above the garage. The room has a sports theme, so the shoe is perfect.

My kids created these under the watchful eyes of their very talented art teachers, but even small children can create "abstract" art , just give them paint or oil pastels that coordinate with your decor and let them go!

These pieces of art reflect our casual family style and are great conversation starters when we have visitors to our home. And that... Works for Me! Check out more Works for Me Wednesday ideas here.

  4. What a great idea...just framing and matting their work gives it such presence and what a meaningful way to decorate our homes! Thanks for sharing this fun idea! Love from Colorado, Denise :-)

  5. I don't have an art budget either. I think the people that do have an art budget probably don't need to exist on a budget at all! :) But this is an adorable idea and some great artwork!

  8. Those are great - Meghan draws fairly well - she just kept most of hers in a notebook. My mom had several of mine framed from when I was little. It does make a house seem more like a home.

Love the tennis shoe - your daughter is very talented!!

    Have a great weekend ~

  9. I have a water color painting on my fridge with magnets waiting for a frame. Maybe I'll just go dig one up from somewhere. The problem with four small children is picking what to use and finding time to use it!

Oh, and I've read enough. I'm bookmarking you! :)
