My Grandma's Chair

Welcome to my first Metamorphosis Monday post.

When I was a child, this chair sat beside the bed in my grandmother's guest room. I loved to sit in it while she tied my shoes. When I was a teenager, I threw my clothes all over it, well, because at my Grandma's house, you DON'T throw your clothes on the floor. A few years ago, my Grandma gave me the chair. I guess she figured I'd probably used it more than anyone else over the years.

I have kept the chair in my bedroom for all these years, because it was obviously in sad shape, and of course everything else in my house is PERFECT, so I didn't want anyone to see it. ;) I finally decided that I wanted a small chair beside the front door in my foyer, so I decided to reinvent it. Whatever that stuff is that the seat is made out of was falling apart, so my husband cut it all off and just screwed a piece of beadboard down for a seat.

Don't panic, we don't think anyone other than a small child will actually SIT on this, and I plan to use my decorating "skills" to cover it up. Stay tuned, and keep in mind that this blog is about reusing stuff, not buying new stuff.

Like this ugly seat cushion, for example. I loved this when I bought it for our front porch chair a couple of summers ago. But then it GOT ugly, you know? Don't you hate it when that happens?

So that's why I have plenty of materials to "reinvent", 'cuz apparently I buy A LOT of ugly stuff.

You're probably ready for the big reveal, aren't you? Here she is, with a mini-skirt on (when you've got legs like this, I say flaunt them):

A good sanding and some shiny black spray paint can fix anything, can't it? I used a no-sew idea to cover the cushion, an idea I borrowed from Kimba, at A Soft Place to Land.

Thanks for stopping by my first attempt at Met Monday. Please check out all of the other transformations at Between Naps on the Porch.

Have a great Monday everyone!

I love your grandmother's chair. I'm very sentimental toward my grandparents, and I always love the treasures that others post about the treasures from their grandparents.

  13. Oh, you have no idea how much I love this post. I have the chair from my grandma's bedroom, too! I've had it for about 5 years. I keep it in the laundryroom. I've been dragging my feet about refinishing it. I may have to consider painting it. Yours looks great painted. I need to redo the seat and cushion. I think this make be my next project.
