My house is a work in progress. I have big ideas for bringing the decor together, but a few limitations.
- lack of funds
- a husband who thinks we should spend less than we earn, no matter how BAD I want something (the nerve of that man!)
- I work part-time as a nurse which leaves me little time
- I have four active kids (ages 14, 12, 9 and 6) that leave me even less time
These limitations have taught me patience, and I've learned that a home is even more beautiful and meaningful if it has come together over time, with treasures added that showcase memories for the family that lives there.
That said, here is a shot of my "not yet finished" family roomThe couch sits along the longest wall, facing the double window that overlooks our very boring back yard (a spring project!). I was at a loss as to how to begin to decorate this long wall when I found the blog Eight Crazy and this wall art idea. These are 12x12 canvases with scrapbook paper attached with Modge Podge. There is a layer of Modge Podge over the top of the paper to seal it. The directions can be found here.
Here's a closer look.
I found this scrapbook paper at Kroger! I'm telling ya, a lot of my ideas come from the grocery store. I guess that's because, with a family of 6 to feed, I spend a lot of time at the grocery.
I obviously have a "lack of throw pillows" issue (there's also a matching naked love seat in here), and I've pondered how to fix that inexpensively for way longer than I should have. Since I have a well documented lack of sewing skills, I'm thinking of trying Kimba's idea here.
I also have a project planned for a "new" coffee table, but with below zero temperatures here in central Ohio, that one will have to wait until it warms up enough for me to spray paint in my well insulated garage (thanks honey!). Stay tuned!
