Trash to Treasure--A Series and a Giveaway!

Welcome to the first Trash to Treasure Tuesday!

I know it's late, but technically it's still Tuesday, so get off my back. I'm just sayin'.

Tonight and on Tuesdays for the foreseeable future, I'll be sharing my trashy friends with you. No, not those. I'm talking about my thrift store finds, garage sale deals, and flea market marvels "reinvented" into useful and hopefully beautiful treasures for my home and yours.

Meet my first trashy friend. I thought about giving her a name, but I was sure it would be, like, someone's grandma's name. I found this today at the GW for $3.99. It's actually one piece, more like a plaque than a frame with "art."

I bought my first can of chalkboard paint at Home Depot this evening, and it was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.

Apparently, you have to let chalkboard paint "cure" for 3 days. So I couldn't write a catchy phrase on it, but you get the idea. I trimmed the "frame" edge with Colonial Red from American Accents. My kids think I should use this for their daily "To Do" lists. Do you think it might help with the actual "DO" part?

Now for the GIVEAWAY part. Did you scroll down to read this part first? Come on, it's okay to admit it.

In honor of my 50th follower AND my 100th subscriber (Yay me!) I am giving away a subscription to DO IT YOURSELF magazine! That's a whole year of ideas and projects!

Here's how to enter:

  1. Leave a comment on this post.
  2. Post on your blog about the Trash to Treasure series. Mention the giveaway too! Please leave a comment to let me know you posted.
  3. Become a follower. Leave me a comment to let me know that you're either an existing follower or a new one.
  4. Subscribe to my feed. Again, leave a comment to let me know!

So it's possible to have 4 entries. I'll be drawing the winner on Monday, March 9.

Thanks for joining me for the Evening Addition of Trash to Treasure. I promise the next installment will happen BEFORE dark.

  2. "Do It Yourself" is one of my favorite magazines, I can't believe I let my subscription lapse. Their do-it-yourself home tutorials are even simple enough for the craft-challenged like me.

  6. TOO funny that you've started Trash to Treasure Tuesday - I was at GW today looking at all their corny art stuff. I was wondering why ANYONE would spend any money on it - and now I know. Such a GREAT idea - I might just have to steal it! My daughter would love a huge chalkboard like that!!

  8. I swear I just left you a comment but i'm not sure where it went. As I said before. I also wanted to try the chalk paint but was never sure if it really worked. I guess it does. We are redoing our house down to the studs and a do it yourself mag would be great! I will put this on my side bar now. You know I already follow!
congrats on getting to 50 followers.

  10. To answer the question above, if you're receiving updates on your blogger dashboard, then you're a follower, thanks!
To subscribe to the "feed" click on that and you'll either receive e-mails with new posts, or a feed on your google or yahoo, etc. home page. I think.

When I first got it I had to hold myself back from making everything into a chalk board!
My family was very happy when I didn't come after their bedrooms with a paint brush loaded with the wonderful mixture! Wouldn't that be awesome though! You could write on the walls all you wanted! LOL LOL

  23. I am sooo looking forward to Tuesdays!!! Yea! If you ever want to steal any of my ideas, please feel free.

Maybe the "do" part will be more likely to get done if you let them cross out each item as they complete it? Probably wishful thinking, if your kiddos are anything like mine.

Did you know that you can also buy Dry Erase paint??!! I'm trying to think what I can do with THAT!....Kathy @ A Little Pinch of This and That

I love the chalkboard! I'm a total thriftstore junkie and plan to start putting my finds on my blog too. Yesterday I found a beautiful vintage 1950's coat with a MINK collar (I didn't realize this until I got home and looked it up on Ebay)! I'm totally in love with the coat. I don't love the idea of a creature snuggled around my shoulders, but it is beautiful!
