Do you like bedtime stories?I do.
Before I show you today's project, I thought I'd share an excerpt from one of my favorites.
Yes, BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND (seriously, I got an e-mail) it's my mom crush, DR. SEUSS. (you MUST read this out loud for the full effect)
"The news
Just came in
From the County of Keck
That a very small bug
By the name of Van Vleck
Is yawning so wide
You can look down his neck.
This may not seem
Very important, I know.
But it is. So I'm bothering
Telling you so.
A yawn is quite catching, you see. Like a cough.
It just takes one yawn to start other yawns off.
Creatures are starting to think about rest.
Two Biffer-Baum Birds are now building their nest.
They do it each night. And quite often I wonder
How they do this big job without making a blunder.
But that is their problem.
Not yours. And not mine.
Not yours. And not mine.
The point is: They're going to bed.
And that's fine."
I really can't explain why I LOVE this so much. That brilliant rhyming is so orderly, and calming. And HILARIOUS.
So, ANYWAY, I would read bedtime stores like this every night, if I didn't have THIS by my bed.
I found a plain white shade at the Goodwill, and got out my textured wallpaper and paint. I TOLD you you'd see this stuff again.
Not bad for $1.99, huh? (the shade is a little small, I know)
Now if only I could get my hands on a copy of the Grinch...
Welcome Lamp Partiers! I've linked my silly post up to the Nester's Lampalooza party!

Howdy sitsta! Happy Wednesday. Checking in on Hump Day. Tonight begins Passover. Only 4 days until Easter. Celebrate!

I don't think the shade is too small at all. Lookin' good!
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job on the shade. I never thought of wallpaper, but I have painted lampshades, works pretty good. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThat is precious! Lovin' it!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan
I think the lampshade looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea with the lamp shade! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought of that!
ReplyDeleteI love Dr. Suess, and my favorite of all time is "The Sneetches". Have you read that one?
You dazzled me again! I love it!!! VERY nice looking shade!
ReplyDeleteI love Dr. Seuss and the lamp!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog this morning!
Who doesn't love a good story? ;) Love your shade!
ReplyDeleteI love Dr. Seuss, I remember reading them as a kid,my mom loved those books too! The shade, it is perfect, for a $1.99..yipee!
ReplyDeleteI love your headboard. I am in need of one. I'll keep an eye out for a door like that. Your lamp shade turned out great too!
ReplyDeleteLove that lampshade! Great idea. I didn't think it was too small at all. Hmmm... I have a ton of wallpaper books down in my crafty room. You're making me think about what all I could be doing with them! Stop it! I'm supposed to be sewing. I've always loved Dr. S. too. I used to live in San Diego and they had a whole display dedicated to Dr. S at the library at SDSU, so I went to see that. It was pretty cool. Like, his old notebooks were on display and all kinds of drawings, etc. You would love it.
ReplyDeleteHooray for textured wallpaper! Thanks to you, this stuff is gonna be a hot commodity!
ReplyDeleteLove it...it's totally cute! I have a copy of the Grinch. Well, actually it belongs to my daughter, but what's hers is mine, right?
ReplyDeleteXazmin
I honestly love reading Dr. Seuss out loud to my kids. When I was a teacher (5th grade), I would still read out loud to them Dr. Seuss because I loved how it just rolled off my tongue.
ReplyDeleteNow onto the lampshade...gorgeous! I don't think the shade is too small, but I'm very curious to know how you actually did that with wallpaper and paint. I need more details!! Remember...I'm a baby "reinventor" (is that a word?) :)
Hope you're having a great week!
Hey Kimm
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the sweet comment...It made my day:)
I love the lamp! It's genius!
I'm a huge fan of Dr. Suess too.
My favorite is Oh the Places You'll Go...

Hi! Stopping by from SITS - I think it looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI never think of wall paper - I always grab fabric or ribbon. You've got such a great idea here. Thanks
ReplyDeleteOoh, the Sleep Book is a HUGE favorite around here! My daughter always picks it to read before bed because it's so loooong and she can stall. But who are we to begrudge her some Seuss???
ReplyDeleteLOVE what you did with the shade! All this Seuss talk had me almost forgetting about the party. A good rhyme can do that, you know!
