Trash to Treasure Tuesday–Frugal Frames

Whew! Painting $19 pillows is STRESSFUL, let’s play in the thrift store pile today.

FRAMES. FRAMES. FRAMES. I think frames are the easiest items to find at thrift stores and garage sales. That must be why I’ve posted about them so many times! I am amazed at the number of unimaginative people that will sell or donate an empty frame or a piece of “art” with great trim, unable to see its POTENTIAL.

We’ve worked on plenty of frame projects here on REINVENTED (remember the tray and the message board?), but today’s projects are of the QUICK, EASY AND FAMILY FRIENDLY variety.

First up, this little beauty.

Thanks a LOT, that is the after. (you didn’t think I’d actually remember the before pic, did you?) This was a plain square wooden frame. $1.99 at the Goodwill. I spray painted it Heirloom White, then let my daughter pick out scrapbook paper and ribbon to match her room. I traced the frame onto the paper, cut it out and Mod Podged it on. The ribbon is attached with hot glue. Judging from the LOVE in my 10 year old’s eyes, I’m thinkin’ this would make a great gift for a preteen. AND it was less than $5 total.

This next idea works SO WELL for our family. I found this fabulous distressed black frame at a garage sale last spring. I printed out a list of frequently used phone numbers and framed it with some decorative paper. This sits next to our phone and we ALL use it. I could have just programmed these numbers into our phone, but the people I live with don’t remember ANYTHING THAT I TELL THEM, so we needed a constant visual reminder.

THAT’S IT!! A couple of quick and easy projects to make your life EASIER, but not more EXPENSIVE.

Link up ladies!!

  1. Hi Kimm
I had a new project for today but I didn’t get photos yet. I posted a project from last week.
I love the frames, and I LOVE the pillows from yesterday.:)
    Happy Tuesday

  2. I’m with you. After seeing how cheap they are in thrift stores, I refuse to pay regular price for frames anymore! Love how you printed out the phone numbers!

  3. Kimm! YOU WON! Come to my blog and see what you won for the Birthday Surprise Giveaway! I hope you enjoy it! Email too, your address so I can get it out to you!

  4. I always love all your frame ideas! I am working on something for next week…hope it turns out!

It’s Mod Podge Mania today if you want to come share these!

  5. These are great, Kimm! I need to work at beautiying my frames before I just decide to get rid of them. I found some pretty cheap frames at IKEA that I really don’t like, but with some scrapbook paper and Mod Podge, I believe they will be works of art! Great idea with the phone numbers. You can frame just about anything these days, huh?

So…obviously I haven’t completed a project for Trash to Treasure in weeks, but I did FINALLY get the tray finished! Come on by to take a peek! ;)

    Hope you’re doing well!

  6. Love the frame-that would make great birthday gifts. I’ll have to start looking for frames at garage sales-thanks for opening my eyes as to what I could do with them. I tend to just look at what something is and not what it could be.

  7. Believe it or not I had never been to Goodwill store before today! We also have a store very similar called Value Village around here too. I was in makeover heaven, and I picked up several frames. I think my husband is worried I may have a new addiction!
