Boasting About Bread

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July celebrations. We had a relaxing weekend picnicking, hanging out at the neighbor's pool (there is NOTHING better than a good neighbor with a pool!), and watching our small town's parade and fireworks.

We also baked bread. Lots of bread.

Actually, my HUSBAND baked bread. I know, you're insanely jealous, and you should be. (that's a root beer bottle, by the way, baking isn't that stressful)

I really don't know what's gotten into him, I told him that I'd like to try cooking more from scratch, to cut back on our consumption of processed foods and preservatives, and he jumped at the challenge. And the bread was GOOD.

I say WAS, because it's gone already, of course, and therein lies the problem with homemade bread. It's TOO good.

We, and by "we" I mean "he", made Honey Whole Wheat bread, a recipe I found on allrecipes.com.

I'm sure you're all wondering what bread has to do with home decor, and to that I'd just like to say "I never did tell y'all that all I'd talk about was home decor."

And "here's the home decor part."

I found this idea on Lowe's Creative Ideas.com. It's a pastry slab made from a marble tile. Apparently the dough doesn't stick to the tile because it's cool. Like low temperature cool, not cool like I'm cool for finding y'all this idea.

If I had one of these on my counter, I could fool my friends into thinking I was Ina Garten or somethin'. Nah. My husband would start bragging about how HE made the bread and things would get all complicated. I think I'll stick to the decorating.

  10. We have a marble slab we do rolling on. They're really not that expensive, just about $5. My husband and I use it when we make fondant. I like it, but I like to roll things out all at one time. One slab doesn't really work well when you've got to roll out a lot of dough and make it thin. :) I think you (or your husband, hehe) should try it next time you have to roll somthing out.
