When Life Gives You Lemons…

Sometimes life is full of irony. And God moments. Do you have those?

I think that would be what this is called. Let me explain…

Last week I learned a lesson.

Never ever ever put your wooden cutting board in the dishwasher. Even if it’s really nasty.

On a totally unrelated note, I’ve been trying to memorize some of my favorite Bible verses, commiting to memory the words of God that I find most comforting or inspiring in times of need. EVERY DAY NEED.
I printed out a verse that I can especially relate to and have a HARD time remembering, and, after painting the broken cutting board strip, I mod podged it on. I snapped this picture last night, and was going to display this verse on my kitchen window sill above the sink.
It never made if off the kitchen counter you see it on here.

Because THIS happened about 30 minutes after I snapped the AFTER shot of my Trash to Treasure project.

Yeah. I’m thinkin’ I should have that verse tattooed on my forearm, y’all. This is my sweet, sweet 7 year old son’s right leg, complete with a fractured tibia from that &#*(&@^ trampoline.

He is the bravest child EVER. School starts in SIX days. I was already dreaming of my “KID FREE” hours. Oh my. For a minute there, I thought I was in charge of my life. I thought that MY plan would be reality. Do you remember that moment in the movie “Evan Almighty” where Steve Carell says “this was not part of my plans?” And Morgan Freeman, who plays God laughs?

That’s me, right there. Maybe He knew that a wooden plaque on the window sill wouldn’t be enough to get it through my thick skull.

Some of us need hit over the head with a baseball bat.

Care for some lemonade?

Okay everybody, I sincerely hope that your projects this week don’t come with injuries and “aha” moments. Link up, I need a distraction!

  1. Oh, look at that itty bitty leg in such a giant cast. I hope your little guy get lots of sympathy at school.

I once put a hot glass cake pan in luke warm water and the whole thing exploded. There was glass every where. Too bad I couldn’t make anything out of shards of glass.

    Good luck this week.

  2. I hope he’s able to get up and around soon. Poor guy!

I learned that I am not at all in charge on the day the doctor told us we were expecting quads. All of my plans and ideals had to be thrown out the window right then. lol

  3. Oh man! I feel your pain! My DD got herself a dislocated elbow and greenstick fracture of her left arm 3 weeks BEFORE summer in her 4th grade year – and yes, it was from a trampoline! She didn’t fall off, she was about to do a flip and changed her mind. She put her left arm down to catch herself and that was all it took! I’m so sorry your little man is hurt!!!

  4. Oh…bless his heart. Yikes…and just days away from starting school. I guess it was a good thing that the summer was not spent like this! Hang in there, life is full of lemons and at times I feel like they get squeezed in my eyes!

  5. Oh that sinks!!! I need to show this to my hubby who thinks trampolines are GREAT, I always tell him, our kid will get hurt, and he laughs…God does work in mystrious ways doesn’t he!

  6. Oh my! I had something close to that happen a week ago. At the spur of the moment I decided to go with my dh on a trip to GA. He had an early morning meeting, so I headed out to Wally world because it was too early for anything else. I somehow missed the curb, and turned my foot. Bad sprain, which put a REAL damper on ALL the plans I had for the weekend :-( The next morning, this verse jumped out at me – “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps”. Yep, right off the curb. Hope your son is better soon.

  7. Remember the part of the movie where Morgan Freeman says…”God doesn’t give you patience. He gives you OPPORTUNITES to practice patience.”? Yeah…fits, doesn’t it? Love that movie! Love the lines that remind us that He is God. And I’m giggling…nervously. Because, you see, I have two little guys of my own that have yet to break that first bone. Because….”to every thing, there is a season” ecclesiastes 3:1-8 Hope you all heal quickly!! :)

  8. I’m so sorry! Yay for your boy for being so strong and brave. That’s the good in this bad situation. I hope he gets along ok and he heals very quickly.

  9. Ahh Kimm..so sorry about your sweet son. My hubby fell off a trampoline at age 5 and has two huge scars on either side of his right elbow where they had to fix the compound fracture he received! I make him show my kids the scars everytime they ask us to get a trampoline. Doesn’t phase them though.

  10. Ugh, I’m so sorry that happened to your little guy…hope it heals up quickly! We got rid of our trampoline when we moved last fall and I have to admit, I am kinda glad about it :)

Hope your week goes more smoothly!

  11. Poor sweetie! That does not look fun! I hope he heals fast and is up and running around in no time. Hopefully you’ll be having a nice tall glass of lemonade all by yourself soon. :)

  12. Oh no!!! poor guy!! Hope he heels quickly! My hubby just got our 13yo a trampoline a few months ago – much to my dismay! – those things scare me! Mom’s know these things!

  14. i know exactly how you feel my 5year old broke her leg. (same place top of tibia into the growth plate.) 2 days before kindergarten started. they gave her a cast all the way up and straight. she has been a super duper trooper. I rented a wheel chair and take her to school. luckily its only half day. she also broke it while jumping on the trampoline. her cousins fell on her while at her lil birthday party. 8 days left till she gets it off. kids are so resilient. good luck with your lil guy.
