Thrifty Weekend Wall Art

 

Looking for an easy winter weekend project?

 

Have a naked wall that you’d like to fill up without emptying your wallet? 

 

Here are a few ideas that require a little time, a little money, and a LITTLE trip to the thrift store, flea market or antique store.  (all are from DIY Ideas magazine)

 

Is there any such thing as a LITTLE trip to the flea market??

 

There’s nothing like architectural interest to fill up the large expanse of wall above a sofa.  Pick up an old window at a flea market, and fill each pane with family photos.  You can use card stock, scrapbook paper, fabric, or wrapping paper to “mat” the photos.

 

Dress up a thrift store frame with rulers and hot glue.  I love this look.  The “art” in these frames could come from an old calendar or the pages of a book.

This is a fabulous idea for a family photo wall.  Check out the scraps bin at your local home improvement store for pieces of moulding, nail or glue those to your wall, and hang pics from hooks attached to the curved edge. 

With this system, you can easily change out the art frequently, if you can’t leave well enough alone, like me.

 

Let’s see…texture?  check.  Character?  check.  Old cutting boards, bowls, and platters on your kitchen or dining room wall?  Beautiful.

 

In these modern times, and the days of GPS, (I loooove my Magellan), maps have become VINTAGE and ANTIQUE.  Kind of like typewriters, record albums, and wall phones.  If you’re not as old as me, you might not even remember that stuff, but I’m pretty sure you’d recognize a cool map if you found one.  If you do, hang it on the wall.  This looks like a coastal area, that would be so cool on a bathroom wall.

 

Don’t feel like shopping AT ALL?  Them frame stuff you’ve already got.

 

Like wrapping paper.

 

Fabric.  These are old table cloths.

 

 

You can even frame your jewelry.

Girls, there’s no excuse for naked walls.  Hang your children on the wall if you have to.  Just use REALLY sturdy hooks.
