Guests Blogger--Amber Filkins!!

Hello Reinvented fans! My name is Amber Filkins from {ae filkins}. Kimm was so gracious to let me take over her blog for today. I ♥ Kimm, and have enjoyed becoming friends over the last year. She is just great!

I struggled with what to talk about, and had so many ideas floating around in my head. I finally settled on the topic of incorporating old & new things into your home decor, since this is what I'm currently doing in my own home. I've always been drawn to older pieces. Vintage or antique. My grandfather has a very large antiques collection. And I've always loved roaming through his shops, studying and admiring all of the lovely milk glass, jars, wooden crates, etc.

Lately, I've been leaning more towards incorporating vintage & antiques in with my newer pieces.

Here is one way to incorporate old & new into your home decor:

Here's the breakdown: Old crate {free}, white luggage rack {newer}, white candle sticks {new}, World Atlas {old}, greenish/blue bottle {new}, white egg {new}, starfish {old}, screen {old}.

Don't be afraid to mix the two!
Thanks again, Kimm!

***I actually had so many pictures, and different examples of how to mix old & new, that I'm going to split them up into various posts, creating a mini series. Feel free to follow along over at my blog if you're interested. I'd love to have you!

Hey everybody, Kimm here, giving you your GREAT piece of advice for today.  Please please please check out Amber's FABULOUS ETSY SHOP.  You won't be disappointed!
Thanks Amber for sharing your "eye", I love the way you think, and I love you too!

Trash to Treasure Tuesday--The Spring Edition

Happy Spring Everyone! I am excited to be here today on Kimm's fabulous site! My name is Stephanie and I am the girl most likely to be found over at Somewhat Simple!
I am coming to you all the way from sunny AZ. Sorry to the rest of you still covered in snow- you can all laugh at me in July when the weather is "less than perfect" here. (Do you like how I am trying to stay positive about what I used to call "Tell-me-again-why-I-moved-here heat"?- It's all in the attitude, right?) Spring in Arizona is like the down-hill sprint to hot summers that I dread so much, so I try to prolong this bright and cheery season and what better way to do that than by making some fun spring crafts?!  Lets get started!

I bought this wreath last year on clearance:

and the reason it was on clearance was because up close, a lot of the eggs looked like this:

Some might call it character, some might call it trash, I call it a makeover waiting to happen!

So I took apart this wreath, saving the wreath itself for another project and setting aside the foam eggs it came with til I knew better what to do with them...

...and then I saw this cute idea in Family Circle Magazine:

GLITTER EGGS!!! PERFECT!!!

I decided to make a day of egg decorating with the kids. What kid doesn't love glue and glitter, right?

And this couldn't be easier!

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Egg, glitter, double sided tape (or glue) and a plate to help contain the glitter- but really, the glitter ends up everywhere after the kids get done, so whatever!

STEP ONE:
Wrap your tape around your egg.

STEP TWO:
Roll your egg around in the glitter. If you are doing multiple colors, start with the darkest color first. Tap your egg a few times to get the glitter off. I learned with Styrofoam eggs you need to physically dust the glitter off with your pointer finger.

STEP THREE:
Add more colors. I went in a straight-lined pattern, but the kids were doing zig zags and cross overs and I liked theirs better!

Or you can do an all-over color by using a glue stick, like these. (Better for little kids- they like using glue and get less frustrated!)
So once you are done...

...put all your eggs in a cute glass vase or bowl!

We made several varieties, using fabric, Washi Tape and other fun embellishments, but you'll have to check out those ideas on somewhat simple.com! Stop by and say hello! There is something new each and every day- recipes, crafts, spotlights and more! If you come tomorrow, you can join our online link party that I host each Thursday. Consider yourself personally invited!

Kimm, thanks for having me as your guest today! You'll need to come post on my site soon!
Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Guest Blogger--My Dear Trash

Good morning, my friends, I've got quite a TREAT for you today.  Kelly, from My Dear Trash, is here!  Don't ya just LOOOOVE that title, "My Dear Trash?"  Kelly and Laura introduced themselves to me a few months ago, and I'm so glad they did.  Their blog is like a TREASURE CHEST of reinvented TRASH!
Welcome Kelly!

I'm so thrilled to be guest blogging here at Reinvented! Over at My Dear Trash, Laura and I are always on a thrifting adventure. Our blog features the treasures we find and what we do with them. Before I show you my newest trash here's a few past projects... This frame collage was created using 3 different frames purchased at a yard sale for $5.

Laura gave me this 9' table she picked up for $50 and I transformed it with paint and vinyl lettering.
After a trip to the metal salvage yard, I created this pottery barn copy cat clock face.
I picked up this playhouse at a garage sale and completely remodeled it! And now, my newest project... A free dresser turned Girlie Tool Box. I picked up this dresser for free at a yard sale. Why was it free, you ask? While riding in the back of a truck during a move, one of the drawers blew out and one got damaged. The owner figured it was trash. I love trash, so Mr. Right loaded it up. I wasn't sure what I'd do with it, so it just hung out in my shop (garage) for a few months. I found myself putting my painting supplies in the remaining drawers- It became very convenient- always knowing where my brushes, sandpaper, spray paint, etc. were. Until one day, the unexpected happened...
The whole bottom of the drawer gave out- One spray paint can too many I guess. I was almost ready to donate the dresser to our wood pile but I really missed the convienience of my supply chest. That's when I got the idea to replace the drawers with shelves. All we'd need was a few sheets of plywood. A few weeks later, while garaging, we found a pile of lumber marked "Free" at the side of the road and, you guessed it, Mr. Right loaded it up. Here's Mr. Right cutting the pieces to fit my new cabinet.

Here she is all painted up...
And here she is all ready for business...

I picked up these buckets for .25 each at a yard sale. They used to be baby blue, but they make great containers for extra knobs, nails, etc.

This scalloped tray was a find just last weekend for $2- all she needed was a coat of black paint. My set of pink tools fit perfectly- also a garage find for $2.

These baskets were left over from my daughter's "Baby" closet. They used to hold socks, shoes, burp cloths, blankets, etc. Now they are labeled and hold my most important tools.

This "Projects" holder was a $1 find at Goodwill. It used to be blue with an oh so outdated tole painting (wish I had that before pic)

And to make it the perfect Girlie tool cabinet- Mr. Right added industrial strength castor wheels, so I can move her all over the shop.
Thank you so much Kimm for letting me guest blog. You can read about more of our thrifting adventures over at My Dear Trash, have a great weekend. Love, Kelly

Aahhh, don't you just love the verb "garaging?"  I can't wait until "garaging" season starts.  Thanks Kelly, what a fabulous makeover!  Have a great day everyone.  Spend some of it checking out My Dear Trash!

Pondering Porches

It’s that time of year again.  The time when I drool over pictures of people’s posh porches.

Then I try to make my tiny one look good.

This is the porch I HAVE.

Jake, front porch 003

The polka dot pots are kind of a big deal around here.  Otherwise it’s pretty boring.  And small.

This is the porch I WANT.  (from Country Living)

ss_100142827

Can you just imagine?  If I had that porch I’d never leave.  There’s no way I’d be preparing to drive 15 hours to Florida with four kids and a husband who can’t sing but belts out Top 40 hits anyway.

I’d settle for this one too. (from BHG)

I’d sit in one of those fabulous chairs sniffing the geraniums and reading Dr. Seuss books.

A poet has to hone her craft.

Maybe I just need more POTS.  Like this perfectly potted porch.  I’m LOOOVING the purple.

I think I’m of the “you can’t have too many pots” persuasion.

What about you?

Thanks so much to everyone that graciously offered to guest post for me next week.  I’ve got an amazing line-up planned, don’t miss it!

Oh! and GUESS WHAT?  The winner of the Timeless Treasures giveaway is The Clines!  Look for an e-mail from me to claim your prize!

Beach Prep

Good Monday morning, my friends!  We are busy here packing for our Spring Break trip to Florida.

I can’t wait to “meet” the beach again.

My kids can’t wait to meet Mickey and Cinderella.

I think we have different goals for this trip.

I found some really cool beachy trash to treasure projects to share with you today.

FleamarketStorage_ss3This looks beachy to me, but I think those are skis.  A surfboard would work well too, right?

FleamarketStorage_ss9  Love these oars.  Makes me wish we lived in a beach cottage.  Maybe someday.

Don’t forget to enter the Timeless Treasures giveaway!

Enjoy your day!
