Trash to Treasure Tuesday

Happy Tuesday morning!

GUESS WHAT??

Okay, I’ll tell you.

It’s Trash to Treasure Tuesday, and I actually have a PROJECT to share!!

Can you believe it?

It’s been so long, I kinda forgot how to post a project.  I totally forgot the BEFORE pictures, so you’ll have to use your imagination…

The whole story started with these eight12x12 canvases that I used for wall art.  I covered them in scrapbook paper to match the ugly wall color in our family room.  When I finally changed the wall color,  I reused four of them to spell this:

winter formal 004_thumb[7]
The rest of the canvases have been sitting in my basement collecting dust, until this weekend when I got suddenly REALLY tired of my plain white tile backsplash in the kitchen.

Like, REALLY tired.

I’m also really tired of trying to manage all of the small slips of paper in our house that seem to have important information on them.  So I made these:

memo boards 001
I covered right over the scrapbook papered canvases with drop cloth fabric and my glue gun.  I used some letter stamps and black fabric paint to add some lettered cuteness.

They are hung on the wall with 3M picture hanging thingies.  Those are some fabulous thingies, let me tell you.

That’s it, I DID IT!  I managed to catch up the laundry, dust, vacuum AND do a project this weekend!  And no one starved in the process.  Woohoo!

Link up those projects, I can’t wait to see them!

Sodderbug Giveaway!

Today I’m so happy to introduce you to a new sponsor of REINVENTED, Janelle, from Sodderbug charms.

Janelle has such a unique business, letting YOU be the designer of your jewelry.  HOW COOL IS THAT?

Check out these beauties.

dsc_3751%20-%20copyOh my, you knew I’d pick a monogram.  Fabulous.

dsc_0981

You can even wear your baby’s bottom around your neck.  Any picture you choose can be added to your custom charm, but this one would be WAY fun when your tiny bundle of joy is a TEENAGER.

20433_310780035802_258807015802_5126633_7653642_nYou can even have your blog button in a charm!

Want to see the fabulous piece that Janelle sent me to preview?

memo boards 006 Just look at that curly cutie, the K.

You’re surprised I didn’t get a B, aren’t you?

Guess what?  This is the best part…

memo boards 007

THE CHARMS ARE TWO-SIDED!!!  My photography skills are pretty sad, it’s hard to tell, but my blog button is on the other side.  TWO NECKLACES IN ONE!

I especially like the slightly hammered look of the frame.  The small ball chain is the perfect accent, and there are three lengths to choose from.

I know what you’re thinking…the title says “GIVEAWAY”, when’s she gonna get to the GIVEAWAY???

Right now, as a matter of fact.  Here goes:

Janelle is giving away a custom charm necklace to a lucky REINVENTED reader!

To win:

  1. Become a follower of the Sodderbug blog.  Come back here and leave me a comment so I know you’re following!
  2. Become a fan of Sodderbug’s Facebook page.  Again, come back here and let me know for an entry!

Good luck everyone, and enjoy your weekend!

Disclaimer:  Janelle sent me a free necklace to review for this post.  She did not pay me for my opinion.

The How-To Gal Does Turqoise TP Art

Folks, you are not going to believe THIS.  Prepare to be shocked and amazed.

Seriously.  I do not use the word FOLKS lightly.

One of the ways I'm managing my new job AND my blog is having others do my work for me having guest bloggers.  I am thrilled to have The How-To Gal here today, to share an AMAZING trash to treasure project with you.

I am very excited to be guest posting on Reinvented! Kimm and her thrifty creations have inspired me from the very beginning of The How-To Gal. Today she has asked me to share with you a literal trash to treasure idea. And what could be more of a trash to treasure Cinderella story than turning toilet paper rolls into beautiful wall art?

Trash to Treasure- Turquoise TP Art

What you need:

•Toilet Paper Rolls- the number depends on how large your creation will be

•Tacky Glue

•Scissors

•Spray Paint

•3M Wall Mount Squares

•Patience :)

Gather toilet paper rolls. I used about 28 rolls for this project. Paper towel rolls count for approx. three regular sized rolls.

Squish your rolls

Cut slices of the roll to desired thickness. I cut mine into varying 1/2 inch slices and was able to get 12 slices from each roll.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have enough pieces.

Begin gluing pieces together. I tried to put most of my glue on the tip of the piece.

Attach slices together in the form of a four petal flower.

Your finished flower should look like this. Repeat step 6 until you have five completed flowers. Let dry.

Beginning attaching flowers together. The toilet paper rolls are pretty pliable at this point, so attempt to line the petals up exactly to form perfect circles.

Attach five flowers together to form a row and then repeat steps 6-9 until you have as many rows as you want. Then glue those rows together. I glued four rows together at a time to create a 5x4 flower grid and ending up making five grids. Finally, I took them out to the garage and spray painted them!

Here is the finished project hung on the wall with 3M mounting squares. Beautiful, right??

Believe it or not, I created another toilet paper creation that hangs on my mantle HERE.

Thank you Kimm for giving me this opportunity! Now start gathering those TP rolls and start gluing!!

At The How-To Gal, I love creating something fantastic out of something forgotten or misused in the past. Having beautiful things doesn't mean you have to pay a fortune for them. Through creative means and a little elbow grease, I believe anything can be beautified. I hope you will join me in my journey to transform the ordinary into one-of-a-kind

Thanks How-To Gal!   Note to my loyal, wonderful, fabulous readers:  Thanks so much for your great advice yesterday.  If you suggested a cleaning lady, I think you're a genius, and my husband no longer likes you, just so ya know.

Trash to Treasure Tuesday

Good Tuesday Morning everyone!  I'm so excited to see all  of your fabulous projects today.

Want to know why?

Because your projects are going to be the ONLY ONES today.

I got nothin'.

Not even a good excuse.  Except that I started a new full time job a few weeks ago, and this working full time thing has turned my life UPSIDE DOWN.   I looove the job, it's one I've always wanted to have, but I'm having a little trouble getting everything done.

Got any advice for me?

Seriously, if you do, please leave it in the comments.  I know there are many of you that are experts at this, and I'm kind of embarrassed that I'm not, so PLEASE HELP.  :)

AND link up those awesome projects so that we can all be inspired!  Thanks!

Guest Blogger--Remodelaholic

Happy Wednesday!  I've got another TREAT of a guest blogger for you all today.  Meet Cassity, from REMODELAHOLIC!

Isn't guest blogging the best, thanks Kimm for the opportunity!  I am so excited to be here at Reinvented!

By way of introduction,
My name is Cassity,
and I am a Remodelaholic...
(forgive the cheesy picture.... I couldn't stop myself!)

...well at least I have a blog called Remodelaholic.
I am a wife, a mother and an Interior Designer by degree.
My husband Justin is a Landscape Architect and a "honey do" list genius!
My daughter is the light of our lives.  She is often the reason and perfect excuse for
leaving my projects sitting around unfinished for as long as I want!

Halloween 2009 The Three Amigos

I love working on projects and the satisfaction it brings to see a job well done.  We do a lot of re-purpose, reuse, recycle projects and we try to make them as accessible as possible so that you too can make them.

We are remodeling our third house.  The thing is, we don't like to spend a lot of money to get the look we want... Can I get an Amen?   So, we are always trying new creative solutions.  Then, we share them with you, with complete tutorials to make it as easy to recreate as possible.

On my blog you will find:

Recipes (and a linky party just for recipes), Weekly Linky Parties (Fridays),
Guest House Tours (Mondays), Featured Guest Projects

Today I am going to show you how to make faux roman shades.  I made these out of 1 twin sheet I bought on clearance for $2.00, old ribbon I have had for a while, left over Velcro and scrap wood from another project.  It only took a few hours.

Anyway, this project has been done before in the blog-o-sphere.  But I think that pretty much anyone who has made their own drapes has done this before including myself in this project back in 2005, before I even knew what a blog was... so there, I am not just a copy cat! Although I do love my cats, and my chickens.. and well you get the picture, moving on.

Here is a before:
The whole house has these 2" faux blinds, and they are brand new and perfectly functional so,
I decided to keep them, but I didn't necessarily want to look at them all the time.

( apparently that means I would rather stare at the blank brick wall that is my neighbor's house...)

After:

Here are the instructions if you would like to try it out.

Collect your supplies:
Fabric
Ribbon (if desired)
Heat bond adhesive strip
Velcro, adhesive backing
1 x 2 (x window width+) pine board
Measuring tape or ruler
Iron

(drill and screws or small "L" brackets)

This project can be sewn or not, it is up to you.

Measure your window, decide the width you would like and cut your 1 x 2 to the proper length.
Cut the fabric to width of finished blind plus at least 2 inches and the finished length plus at least 8 1/2+ inches.  (technically since theses blinds do not operate,
you don't have to have the full length and it would be fine)

Finish all four edges, by folding the top and two sides over 1/2 inch,
then 1/2 inch again and either sew or heat bond the seam in place.

On the bottom fold it over 1/2 inch and then 3 inches and sew or bond in place.

Now move on to the tutorial images.

Any questions? ... Bueller? ... Bueller?
What do you think?

Thanks Kimm for letting me guest post!

Amen, Cassity!   Thanks so much for visiting us today and sharing your simply GENIUS tutorial!  Check out Remodelaholic everyone!

Trash to Treasure Tuesday

Happy spring Tuesday morning!  Welcome to Trash to Treasure Tuesday.  I was wondering this morning how many of these parties we’ve had, one of these days I’ll have to count.
Today I have some beautiful projects for mismatched teacups.  My quest for teacup projects started with the March issue of Country Living magazine, where I saw a simply awesome project that involved an old metal candelabra with vintage teacups glue to the candle spots.

It was GORGEOUS.  And I can’t find the picture anywhere.  Sigh.

I did find some others that I found equally as charming, though.
teacup-wineglass-de-84911859 Aren’t these adorable?  Just imagine sipping wine on a summer evening from such a beautiful vessel.

teapot-lamp-de-66036734OR reading a novel by lamplight.  From this gorgeous teapot and teacup lamp.

BTW, if you’re wondering I’m STILL working on my wall of frames project.  And, yes, the laundry is finally caught up.

For, like, five minutes.
Link up those projects!

Playing with Paper

Sometimes I wish I could go back to second grade.  Coloring, cutting, and pasting are some of my favorite things to do.

Maybe that’s why I repaint the walls in my house so often.

My husband will be glad to know that there’s a good reason for this, one that comes from my childhood.

‘Cuz THAT means I can’t help it.  Right?

I spent all weekend cleaning my house.  At one point on Sunday, I just needed to PLAY.

AND I had this blank wall.

So I got out some scrapbook paper, my scissors and a glue stick and made some FREE wall art.

art 001I’m sure you’ll recognize my FAVORITE black and cream polka dotted paper.  I keep about 10 sheets in the house for emergencies just like this one.

art 003I love florals in spring just as much as the next girl, but I like my flowers simpler and more graphic.

When they can’t be fresh, that is.

Have a great Monday!

My Mantle’s At A Party

Yep, I just posted about 10 minutes ago, but I forgot that the Nester is having a mantle party, and I just COULDN’T miss it.

You don’t miss a party at the Nester’s.  Ya just don’t.

Besides, I’m sure that the only reason she’s having this fabulous party is because she wants to see mantles with entirely too many LETTERS on them.

mantel 001I really think that mirrors look beautiful hung above mantels.  Except in pictures, when they look awful.

up, three 005I. LIKE. B’s.  Red shiny B’s.  Aged and glazed aqua B’s.  Even B’s dressed in polka dots.

bird 001

And I like birds.  And old wooden spools that cost a buck.  And candles and moss.

Have you heard how I feel about moss?

I’m done talking now.  You’re welcome.

Free Spring Centerpiece

Remember my FIVE DOLLAR FALL CENTERPIECE?

1013 004

I know that it’s spring now, just give me a second, and I’ll get to the point.

I promise.

In the WINTER, I went to the Dollar Tree, and then  it looked like this:

centerpiece002_thumb12

Now I’m decorating for SPRING at my house, even though the temperature outside is in the 40’s.

Yesterday it was 80.  Go figure.

So, I found a cute little nest in my stash that my friend Melissa sent me, and some moss.

Did you know that I {HEART} moss?

spring break 2010 094

Still my mostly black and cream color scheme.  With a little green, a little “dirt”, a little SPRING.

Now if only Mother Nature would cooperate.

Anyone seen the Laundry Fairy?  I’ve been calling and calling, but she won’t pick up.

Trash to Treasure Tuesday

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  We had a fabulous time on our Spring Break vacation in the Sunshine State, and are settling back in at home.  The fridge is still empty and the laundry pile is as tall as one of my children, but, hey, it will all get done.

Hopefully my Trash to Treasure project that I planned to share today will eventually get done too.

I hate it when I have more important things to do than decorate.

Anyway, here’s the inspiration picture for what I’m working on in our stairwell.

IMG_1110Be. still. my. heart.  I saw this frame and mirror collage at Cottage Instincts last week, and fell in love.   I want want want a similar look to update our stairwell, so I’m collecting frames and searching for small mirrors.  I plan to have my version done to show you next week.  Fingers crossed that the laundry fairy shows up to help me out.

Here are a couple of other favorite finds from last week.

headboardOh, how I love this headboard from the girls at All Things Thrifty.  Makes me want to redecorate my recently redecorated bedroom.

before-and-after I’m so planning to copy this DIY metal sign project from Peppertowne.  I have a little thing for vintage metal signs, but the real thing is real thing expensive.

Link up those projects everyone, and enjoy this beautiful spring day!
