The Repurposed and Upcycled Life, A Review and A Giveaway

Hi everyone, how was your Tuesday?  Mine was a little stressful.  Let’s just say that I had lots of opportunities to give up my messes to God and let him turn them into blessings.

Which reminds me…

I’ve had the real pleasure the past couple of weeks of reading a complimentary copy of “The Repurposed & Upcycled Life” by Michelle Rayburn.

Do you ever have an opportunity come your way, not think too much about it, and then realize later that it was sent by God to shake you up and draw you closer to him?

Yep, me too, and this book was one of those moments.

This is Michelle’s first book, although you’d never know that until she tells you herself.  She writes a  blog, Trash to Treasure Decorating, and that’s of course, where our paths first crossed.

But until I opened the pages of this amazingly real book, I had no idea that Michelle struggles with the same perfectionism, the feelings of inadequacy that flow from perfectionism, and the intense mom guilt that I do.

As I read, I flipped my perspective between “wow, this is like talking to my funny but very wise best friend” and “crap, this is the same story I would write, if I was funny and wise and had good grammar habits.”

“The Repurposed & Upcycled Life” is full of Laugh Out Loud moments, as Michelle entertains with stories from her life as a wife, mother, daughter and friend.   But instead of just telling funny stories,  she also shares her feelings and her insecurities, and her “junk”.

Which was, comfortingly, a lot like my junk.  In my own trunk.

Michelle uses scripture and her own experiences to show us all how God can and will turn our “trash” into “treasure”, if only we will let him in.  If only we will trust him to show us the beauty in our sufferings.

He’ll clean off the dust and grime, cover our sins and ugliness with his own brand of “spray paint” called GRACE, and make us new again.

I highly recommend this book.  Michelle includes creative activities at the end of each chapter, often “assigning” crafty ideas to help to illustrate the theme of each chapter.  This would be a perfect book for a small group or book club.

AND GUESS WHAT???  I have a copy to give away to one of you!

To enter the giveaway, please leave a comment on this post.  For a second entry, visit Michelle’s website, Repurposed Upcycled Life, and leave her an encouraging comment.  Be sure to come back here and let me know that you did.

  1. I would love to read Michelle’s story, sounds a bit like me. I to struggle with perfectionism and God has to continually remind me that Imperfect is ok with Him and that I need to trust and follow him and he will direct and make my path right. (totally paraphrased of course) But it is from my life verse of Proverbs 3:5-7. Anyhow even if I don’t win this book is definately going on my book list of books I intend to read.

  3. I enjoyed your post today – didn’t realize that you were a believer and it was so refreshing to see another person using their talents and gifts to encourage others with Truth. I would love to win the book, and then share it around. Sounds like a wonderful read! Happy Resurrection Day!!

  4. This sounds like a really great book. I am looking to see if it is available on audio as I prefer to listen to books. Either way, I would love to read it and pass it along to my friends.
