Antique Desk Makeover

Spring.  Most people might think of April showers and May flowers.

Don’t get me wrong, I like those things too, but…

I think of paint.  Spray paint, latex paint, chalk paint, even finger paint.

Well…not really.

I’ve been accused of strolling through my house brushing and spraying everything white.

I guess it’s my attempt to lighten and brighten.

And get out of spring cleaning.

My latest project is this desk.

I have had this desk since I was a kid.  Back when spray paint only came in black, red and white.

Here’s the inside, bill paying central.  This secretary desk is missing it’s sidekick, the glass front cabinet that must have been attached on the right when it was a kid.

This desk sits in my dining room, which I’ve decided is kinda dark, so I chose ASCP in Old White to lighten up.

Here’s the desk with one coat, halfway through the great antique desk makeover of the year.  (wink)

This whole no sanding thing is an instant gratification girl’s dream come true.

The hardware was pretty much permanently attached, so I painted it too.

After the second coat of paint, a little sandpaper distressing, and a good coat of Annie Sloan Wax, she’s a lightened up beauty.

I’m loving the contrast with our dark wood floor.

And how the paint brought out the details on the front.

What have you painted lately?  Do you get the urge to lighten up in spring, or is that just me?
