Today is my second Themed Makeover Day. I am so excited and have a fun DIY side table (this month’s theme is “small table”) to share.
Check out last month’s Pottery Barn Themed Makeover here.
Here’s where I started. With a 1970’s era table that I bought for $20 at the first garage sale of the spring.
Notice that the little “wood plugs” are missing at the bottom of the “box” table top.
My idea was to play off of the box look and make over this table to look like a weathered crate on metal legs.
Kind of like this. Sort of.
Here’s my result.
I started with a good sanding to remove the shiny finish, then painted on one coat of Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint in Confederate Gray. I purposely left some of the base color show through.
Next I added some dark brown latex paint that I had on hand, and a little bit of Maison Blanche in Oyster. I sanded again, and finished with MB Antique Wax.
The engineer helped me cut the corner “braces” from a piece of aluminum venting. He nailed them on, while muttering a few words like “you need to relax.” And “you probably shouldn’t do this part.”
A tiny swipe of metallic paint added some age to the aluminum. The legs were spray painted in Oil Rubbed Bronze.
I painted the hinges on the top with the same colors to blend them in.
What do you think? I w ould love to hear your comments!
