Welcome to the June edition of Themed Makeover Day!
If you’re new here, (WELCOME!) let me just tell you, Themed Makeover Day is the most fun day of the month.
This is the day that my furniture making over blogger friends and I share our projects, around the month’s chosen theme.
June’s theme is RUSTIC.
One of my favorite adjectives, I must say.
For my project, I chose to complete a modern rustic bench makeover on a piece that has been sitting in our family room for a couple of years or more.
I picked up this bench at a flea market for $30-40, I can’t remember. At the time, our home was mostly beige and brown with some pops of red, so I loved the rustic red color that it brought to our great room, as well as the extra seating.
Over the years, this bench has become more RUSTIC, and not in a good way. It has been beat up by kids, guests, and puppy teeth.
It definitely needed a paint job, and although I didn’t want to lose all of the rusticity (new word), I wanted a more modern look.
To fit in with our new gray and cream with lots of aqua color scheme, I naturally went with Oyster, from Maison Blanche.
AND a Cracked Pepper stripe. You didn’t actually think there wouldn’t be a stripe, did you? (wink)
I also painted the insets on the legs Cracked Pepper.
This piece is so rustic, it was impossible to keep the line between colors straight.
And for fun, we added these galvanized handles.
They are the handles from the lids to the trash cans we used for our DIY patio lights. #longstoryshort (poor picture quality alert, this was taken early this morning cuz the handles weren’t finished last night. (insert that nervous smile emoticon here))
If you’d like to know more about the felt lettered pillow with my favorite Buckeye cheer (OH!), click here.
I took these photos outside because the light was better, but this baby is going right back in her spot, back to back with our love seat and facing the dining area. A perfect place to guests to perch while I’m toiling away in the kitchen.
I love the color blocking, and although the rusticity gives it a farmhouse style, the single stripe adds a modern touch.
