Rustic Masculine Painted Side Table

Hi friends!

Happy Hump Day!

I can’t believe we are almost done with July.  The back to school panic anticipation has set in.  The girls are excited to buy pretty school supplies, and the Genius refuses to discuss it.

That leaves the Graduate; who moves in to his dorm at The Ohio State University in 22 days.  He’s excited, and I refuse to discuss it.  (cue buckets of tears here)

Just one or sixteen years ago, he was my Target shopping buddy.  Much to the engineer’s dismay, I think “shoppin'” was his first word.

Things have changed (he kinda hates to shop now), but we’re still pretty close and I’m going to miss him terribly.

Even though he’ll only be about 12 miles away.  ;)

Let’s talk about something else…

How about a table??  A painted side table maybe?

Ok, I admit, that one isn’t really worth talking about.  I bought that baby clean off someone’s porch for $10.  It is solid and heavy.  That first swipe of paint is ASCP in French Linen.

And I quickly ruled that color out as an option.  It was way too delicate and French for this hunk of a table.

I switched to Amy Howard’s Graphite and painted on two masculine coats.

I did some sanding to bring out just a little of the dark wood underneath.

I’m pretty sure this table is a dude.  I finished him off with a coat of clear wax, but he maintained his rustic edge.

I think he would be awesome in a college guy’s dorm.

IF I were talking about college guys and their dorms.

But I’m not.  Just so we’re clear.

Thank you so much for visiting!!  Any advice for a mama who refuses to discuss her son’s move out date?

  1. I love this shade of grey Kimm, and the chunky legs are weathered top are perfection! Sorry your babies are growing up. Since I don’t have kids I don’t have any advice other than to say they have a really great mom and since he’s only moving 12 miles away he clearly knows it :) Hang in there lady! CoCo

  2. the only advice i can give you about letting go is to just remind him you will always be there for him send him off with hugs and tears so he knows you mean it… i am sure he is feeling the same deep inside also xx

    1. Thanks ladies! Yes, he definitely will be home when all of his clothes are dirty, that’s why I haven’t taught him how to do his own laundry. ;)

  3. Hi Kimm! The table looks great. I’m in complete agreement that it is a boy. I don’t know what to say about the whole going to college thing. Just that it’s a ride – and things change faster than they’ve ever changed before. Bless you.
PS. Did I miss that you are from Ohio?????

    1. HI Karen!! Thank you for the advice. :) Yes, I live in Columbus, I guess that never came up in our many fun conversations!! ;)

    1. Thank you Nancy, I’m so excited to have a new party to participate in. Painting furniture is part of my business and brand, so I’m thrilled to be involved.

    1. Thank you Maria! Yes, my oldest son, second child, but my oldest daughter lives at home and commutes to college, so she didn’t leave me. ;)
