Striped and Stenciled Bedside Table

Hi friends!

I have a little riddle for you.

What mammal can be the cutest, most fun and sweetest creature one minute, and the meanest, loudest, and angriest the next?

Give up?

Why the teenage girl, of course! ;)

I’m talking about other people’s teenagers, of course.  Not mine.

As volatile as they can be, teenage girls are SO MUCH FUN to decorate for, and mine is no exception.

Today I’m sharing my entry into the Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest, and it just so happens to be a piece for a sweet teenager’s room.

(one of these days I’m going to share the whole room, but the whole room would have to be clean for that to happen…)

I recently joined this fun contest, and am thrilled with this month’s theme, Let Your Colors Burst.  Right up my alley.

The contest is sponsored by Unicorn SPiT, an amazing product that is a combo of stain and glaze, and comes in really vibrant colors.  It can be used over bare wood, or even over chalky type paint, and it smells like jasmine!  Seriously.

Let’s get to my project, shall we?

Here’s the before pic.  I’m ashamed to admit how many layers of paint are on this table.  This look is from many moons ago.

My first task was to paint the table white.  Believe me, that made a huge difference.

Next I taped off the top for stripes and lightly wiped on Unicorn SPiT in Lia Teal.  I wanted a painterly effect, so I wiped in one direction with a stain pad.  I wiped the SPiT (I LOVE saying that) on the bottom shelf too, this time without stripes.

Finally, to add an extra layer of fun and coordinate with the colors of her room, I used the accent wall paint to stencil on a few graphic flowers.

I kind of love it.  And the teenager loves it.  Whew.

Unicorn SPiT is VERY easy to work with, and it smells heavenly.

I definitely will try this again on another piece.

Have a fantastic day, thank you SO MUCH for visiting Reinvented to check out my striped and stenciled bedside table!

  1. Larkin would love this! She’s drafting the design for her “new” bedroom. Because she’s a teenager now and that hot pink paint just doesn’t cut it anymore. I also love that you had to say unicorn spit repeatedly in the post.

    1. Thank you so much Robin! Now if I can just get her to keep the room reasonably clean, we’ll both be happy! ;)
