Trash to Treasure-Swap It Like It’s Hot

Hi guys, welcome to Trash to Treasure Tuesday!

Trash to treasure tuesday twitter

This week I am participating in a fun blogger event with an even more fun name.

“Swap It Like It’s Hot.”

Cool, huh?  This swaptastic event is a trash to treasure party with 40 bloggers participating, organized by Charlotte, from Ciburbanity.

Each blogger shopped at her favorite thrift store (that part was hard, I tell ya ;)), purchased $10-15 worth of items, and sent them to the blogger next on the list.

We all performed upcycling magic, and this week you get to see the results!  So. fun.

If you’re following along with the party, and arrived here via Thoughts From Alice, welcome!

Alice sent me a package of goodies, pictured below.

I gotta admit, a couple of these stumped me.  Like that little owl salt or pepper shaker missing his butt.  I tried to turn him into a lamp topper, and a wine stopper, but his butthole wasn’t large enough.  Ahem.  He’s sitting on my windowsill right now, reminding me of the fact that I can’t reinvent everything.  Sorry, Alice.

I had fun with the drawer pulls and this old piece of molding.

First I added a coat of creamy white paint, and sanded it well after it dried.

The drawer pulls received a quick spray of (affiliate link) hammered metallic spray paint , and I hot glued them to the molding.

Voila!  Jewelry Storage.

My obsession with distressed wood and metal continues.  And this time it’s perfectly practical.

I went the impractical but decorative route with the embroidery hoops.  They were cleaned, sanded, and stained.

A wave of the magic wand, and I had these amazing globe thingies!

Remember those little shell shaped dishes in the package?  They are still silver and shell shaped, but my daughters and I have decided that they must become santa beard ornaments, so stay tuned for that.

Thank you so much for visiting!  Next up is Christy, from Confessions Of A Serial Do-It-Yourselfer.  You simply must see what she did with the items I sent her!

If you LOVE this project, put a pin in it!

      1. I have a lot of metal hoops that held the ductwork in place before we tore it all out and replaced it. I’m going to make orbs after seeing yours I think it will be more of an industrial look, perhaps a pendant lamp?? Thank you for your great ideas, I’ll send you a pix after I get them done..

  1. Kimm,

I love what you came up with, beautiful. By the way what sizes are those hoops? Are they different sizes and that is how you got them to fit perfectly? I love the hoops.

  2. Seriously…SO creative! Love what you did! And I totally smiled about the santa “beard” ornament idea – never in a million years would have thought of that….would love to see them!

  3. Fabulous idea! I am so excited to try it at home! I think that it looks really stylish and can be really useful as extra storage space. It is also very original! Sometimes I am amazed of the lovely and original ideas people can come up with! I definitely need this jewelry storage! Greets!
