Let’s Get To Know Each Other, Word of the Year

Hello my friends!  Happy Monday!  We finally got a little snow this weekend, and I love it; as long as I don’t have to go anywhere.  ;)  Today is the second Monday of January Let’s Get To Know Each Other month on Reinvented, and I’m excited to share my word of the year with you today.

This is the second year that I’ve chosen a word, instead of making a long list of vague resolutions.  Last year my word was “intention” (read that post here), and I won’t pretend that I succeeded in being intentional all. year. long., but I did actually remember the word and try to keep it in my thoughts, which is more than I can say for any resolution I’ve ever made.

This year’s word found me before I really even started considering my choice for 2016.

word of the year

It’s like the word stewardship was planted in my brain.  I didn’t have to think about it, it was just there.  I really feel that it was chosen for me; a “God thing”.

Just look at this definition for a minute.

Who am I to question that?  I spent some time pondering why God would choose this word for me, and after some careful examination, I knew.  You see, I need more stewardship in my life.  Stewardship of the hearts and minds of those I love, and those I’ve yet to meet.  Stewardship of our family’s resources, including the monetary kind.  Stewardship of my health, my faith, and my marriage.

It’s not that I don’t treasure those things, but I don’t always carefully and responsibly consider them when I make all of the choices that fill a day, or a week, or even a month.  I can easily get caught up in a to do list, a packed schedule, and a bout of perfectionism;  letting my words and actions wound a heart, without considering the damage I left in my path.   I’m not responsibly managing what has been entrusted to my care when I unnecessarily spend money trying to meet an unrealistic expectation I’ve set for myself or our home.

And yep, I’ve done all those things.  It wasn’t easy to admit this to myself, but God already knew; so he sent a word.

Do you choose a word each year to focus on?  If so, what is your word for 2016?  Will you please pray for me as I ponder what stewardship means this year, and share your word so that I can pray for you?

Thank you so much.  Have a wonderful week.

  1. kimm lovely post and awesome word, i think my word will be think, as in think before i start, not just projects but what i say and do for others thanks for the prayers xx

  2. My word came as I wrote my post about my word of the year…It is trust. God just dropped it into my spirit and I knew. Now, I’m wondering what kind of trust tests I’m going to go through lol. With Him I can overcome them all.

    1. I love that Debbie! After I became a mom, someone told me “whatever you do, don’t pray for patience, because you’ll get opportunities to be patient!” :) He gives us exactly what we need, huh? :) Will keep you in my prayers, thank you for reading!

  3. I love this post! Mine is faith. I’ve been trying really hard to have faith and trust in God that he has a plan and that I am where I should be right now and that things are the way they are right now for a reason. Does that make sense?

  4. This is such a great word of the year Kimm! I know you’re going to rock this in 2016 and that God has some big plans for you in these areas. I chose intention because I definitely need to stop and consider the choices I make for 2016. I can’t wait to be your cheerleader and see where this journey takes you. I’m totally excited. Hugs, CoCo
