Home Office Decor On A Budget

Hello my lovelies!  Happy Wednesday!  I am excited to finally reveal my home office makeover today.  You may know that I’ve struggled to find the perfect work space in our home.  I’ve tried our bedroom (too dark and lonely), the kitchen table (too busy) and the couch (too comfy ;)).  It finally dawned on me one day that we actually have a den that would be perfect (a forehead slap moment for sure).  The space needed a fresh look and more functionality, and I had a few home office decor ideas I wanted to try.

This is where I started; the space was a little heavy on the black, and both the computer (an old desktop inside the armoire that no one ever used) and the piano faced away from the pretty window with a view of the park across the street.  The rug was all wrong,  I suck at styling shelves, and there was never a good spot for the desk chair.  You get me, right?

My goal was to make this space totally functional for our businesses, and completely inspiring to work in.  First we took everything out of the armoire and piled it on the dining room table; then sorted and purged.  There was so. much. crap.  I donated a LOT of books, and was able to consolidate them on the two lowest shelves to leave plenty of space for business supplies.

The armoire had to go, and was replaced with a rectangular dining table turned desk.  The desk now faces the window and I LOVE the view.  We removed the rug, and brought in two dining room arm chairs for extra seating.

My chicken wire memo board hangs above the desk and will make a perfect inspiration board.

Normally I LOVE neutral gray and white decor, but I decided to add more color to this room to inspire creativity.

I’m kind of in love with this gallery wall above the piano right now; and I can change it up any time I want.  Yay for free printables and washi tape.  ;)

This room is one of my favorites in our home now, and I find myself motivated and inspired to work.  The engineer thinks that is a good thing.  ;)

I used fabric covered storage boxes, baskets and office organizers that we had on hand, but you can find alternatives (affiliate links) here, here, and here.

Thank you so much for reading!!  I’d love to hear what you think of my home office decor in the comments!

  1. I love it Kimm! The gallery wall was the best part–the star and the butterfly?! So cute! I’d love a tutorial on those…

    Any fall shows this year?
