As I type that number, 2017, and I just can’t even believe it. When I was a kid I calculated how old I would be when we got to the year 2000 (33) and tried to imagine what life would be like. I couldn’t imagine life in 2000, let along 2017, yet here I am, 49 years old, writing a blog and about to share my word of the year with you.
If you aren’t familiar with the word of the year concept, choosing a word to focus on each year is an alternative choosing New Year’s resolutions. I have never been successful with resolutions (they were just another thing I wasn’t getting done!), so choosing a word feels right to me. Last year I chose the word STEWARDSHIP, and for 2017 I have chosen
After much prayer and discernment, I chose the word BUILD. The engineer liked it so much, he adopted it too. This year we’ll focus on building our businesses, our marriage, our family, and our faith life. I like the positive vibe I get from our word; build is an action verb, not a passive “we’ll see what happens” kind of word. And it’s no secret we like to build stuff. ;)
As much as I’d like to think that the word is MY choice, I learned last year that God is pretty strategic about placing words in our hearts and letting us think we chose them, then using those words to teach us the kind of lessons only He can teach. Clever, ain’t he?
STEWARDSHIP was quite a life changing term, and I have no doubt that BUILD will be too.
Do you choose a word of the year? If so, share yours in the comments!
