Beachy Beauties

Welcome to Trash to Treasure Tuesday, the day where we ALL get to share our trashy makeover projects.

Yesterday I showed you the beachy paintings I found at last Saturday’s garage sales. I found them at two separate sales, and paid six dollars for both. Last night I made a quick trip to Home Depot for more Heirloom White spray paint (how did I let myself run out?), and lightened up the frames to fit with my plan for the powder room.

Here they are now.

  1. STILL. MY. HEART. Now I REALLY love this one.

This one is DEFINITELY growing on me. The painted frame helps A LOT.

I think I’ve procrastinated long enough, and painted everything BUT the walls. Next up comes primer over that red. Have you read Lindsay’s article on primer? Should help a lot.

Link up those projects everyone! I can’t wait to “STEAL” your ideas (while giving you full credit and a hug, of course)!

4th Of July Mantel

Hey friends!  Last weekend I shared my mantel decorating process on Facebook, and almost completed our 4th of July mantel LIVE.  Almost.  If you could use a laugh, watch the video HERE.   Apparently my totally scientific mantel decor process is too much for Facebook Live, so I tweaked the mantel later and finally found a look I love.

Here’s where we started, our spring mantel with soft blues and greens.  I really loved this look, but it was time for a change.  And I’m currently obsessed with navy blue, so there’s that.

I have four mantel decorating “rules” that I follow, learned from my friend Edie from Life In Grace.    According to Edie, every stylish mantel should have something you love, something to lean, something alive, and something with sheen.

Keeping those rules in mind, as well as a few of my own, I shopped our house for red, white, and blue decor.

To add my own twist to Edie’s ideas, I make sure to vary the textures on our mantel, using wicker candle holders, old metal, and colorful books to keep things from looking like Uncle Sam threw up on our fireplace.  You know what I mean?

Here is the finished vignette.

P.S. I know that the flag is wrong, I painted the stars on the wrong side.  Oops.  My hand painted thrifted vase was perfect for a patriotic look and will play a starring role in the navy blue mantel I plan for July 5th.  😉

THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming by!  Now check out more Red, White, and Blue inspiration from my best blogging buddies!
